OP Y. 6.1400/1910.
Gentlemen,
No. 2.
233
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Hongkong, 28th. May, 1912.
I am directed to inform you that the Director
of Public Works to whom your letter of the 21st. May was referred, has pointed out that the masts of the wireless installation are specified to be constructed of steel, but that, owing to the liability of the masts to corrosion if erected on the proposed site, they should be constructed, if possible, of as pure iron as can be obtained.
2.
These masts in this climate will require constant examination and painting, and therefore some facilities in the way of steps or running scaffolding should be provided.
3.
Finally if the installation is erected on the proposed site, a jetty, preferably on the south shore to the east of Cape d'Aguilar will be required to land stores, oil, etc.
4.
I should be glad if you will be good enough
to take these suggestions into consideration, pending the reply of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, from whom no decision with regard to the site of the proposed commercial wireless
station has so far been received.
I am etc..
(sd.) C. Clementi,
Colonial Secretary.
